I am looking to upgrade my DDC3.2 (thats what it says under the swiftech sticker) to a D5. Can I just bolt it straight to the case? I have to have my existing pump just hang loose due to how loud the damn thing is. Has anyone been able to compare noises? Mine is far louder floating in free air than my HDD bolted straight to the chassis. I have already removed the solder jumper that determines if its an 18W or 12W pump. even at 12w, it is still loud.

I would say if your get a vario version and turn it all the way down there is a small amount of noise but you can't really hear it inside a closed case. A good thing to do is to mount the pump on a foam block or use vibration dampening material to stick it to the case.

My D5 vibrates pretty good, enough to be annoying. If you use the soft side of Velcro or foam you can make the mounting "soft" enough to dampen the vibrations.

U used foam between the pump and the bottom of the case for my d5 ( as well as some dense foam washers between the screws and the case) I don't get much/ any vibration noise just the slight whirring of the water moving when I turn the speed up. (I have a Vario not a PWM)

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

You can trust me, I'm from the Internet.

Use decoupling screws to mount it, you crazy s.o.b. Or if you can find a dampening box like this one big enough for D5, get it. They're sucky AF to install but work like magic.

I would be fine with my ddc3.2 if I could get the damn thing quieter. But the DDC ones (to my knowledge) are not cooled by the water going through them, and this is why they need the airflow.

Yeah. That's what I hear. There's like heatsinks and stuff for it too. I've never witnessed overheating issues with those boxes. I could never get my laser thermometer in there so I don't have any actual data but the company I worked for gave a 2-year warranty for all custom watercooling setups so I'd imagine there should have been at least some warranty cases relating to that. There were broken down DDCs, obviously. But never anything like this. I love to work with both, DDC and D5. DDC looks great with pretty much any decent top and D5 is crazy strong and durable. :D
