Hey guys, Ive been having a problem with electric noise.  I've ruled out any physical vibrations from fans, etc.  I've become really frustrated because ive replaced multiple parts on my system and the problem still persists.  It started when I plugged in usb cord that had accidentally gotten damaged without me knowing and when I tried to boot up the system it gave me a "USB drawing too much power" error.

After that happened, a distinct buzzing type noise started to happen when my gpu went under load.  At first I thought it was my power supply, which was a corsair 650 watt.  I went and picked up a brand new one and installed it - still makes the noise.

After that I found that the noise was in fact coming from the GPU.  I RMA'd the card back to ASUS and picked up a new 980 ti.  After installing the 980 ti I thought there was no way the problem would continue with a new power supply and gpu, but exact same noise??

Do you guys have any ideas what could be causing this? Motherboard? I've already tried plugging it into different wall outlets.  I really hope its just an oversight on my part and theres an easy fix. Thanks

No fix. It's coil whine. It happens when a VRM starts sucking a ton of power. It has to regulate the voltage. That means inductors, and inductors are coils, and coils vibrate when they have tons of power pulled through them.

I stuck my 970 on to folding at home for a good few days, reduced my coil whine brilliantly.

I know about coil whine, my confusion is that it never made any noise like this before.  My graphics card was silent before I plugged in the usb cable.  After I got an error it began making the noise.  Thats why i feel like there is something more wrong than coil whine
