OK here is the back story my parents have sky tv(I think its the equivalent of satellite TV in America) in the lounge and in their bedroom using multiroom which allows them to watch different shows on both tvs through separate decoders. I just put a media PC together for them.  I've tested it out on my monitor and it works fine but as soon as i plug it into the TV in their room the tv in the lounge loses signal completely.  I'm connecting to the tv through hdmi and the sky box is through component cable. i have no idea how this would be happening so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Further info:

the PC is running Ubuntu at the moment

Thanks

Sorry for poorly worded title. It just makes the decoder loose signal and come up with a splash screen relating to atmospheric conditions causing problems however the decoder that is plugged into the other tv works fine.

Well ok then. Does the HTPC have WiFI or any other wireless connections? They might interfere with some signals.

Yes its connected through wifi but it would seen strange that it would only affect the one tv and not both

Are the TVs very close to each other?

Probably 10 meters away (30ft) from each other but both have cables running to the dish on the roof

I can recommend trying to turn off the HTPC's WiFi connection. Just to see if that is the problem

Ok so I didn't try turning of the WiFi but I did try using the computer on the other tv and it worked fine.

Is it possible to switch around the decoder boxes.

Also the computer doesn't even have to be running, just as long as it has the power supply on it will cause the other tv to loose signal. thinking that sky might be doing it intentionally?

It begins to sound like it might be EMI. Since you are runnning componant cables they might be losing signal because of this. Can you try some other cables?

I have a feeling the decoder can only output in component, also the tv that looses signal is in another room to the computer.  Its also not becoming bad quality it is just completely cutting off

I can't think of any more things to try. I think you need to contact Sky TV and ask them about the problem. I don't know what the rlaws are in your area, but I consider this a degradation of the service that Sky TV provides. They have probaby heard about your problem before and might have a solution. And if the problem is the box you might need a new box

Yea i thought it was getting to this point, thank you for you're help. I will post an update if things change.

Out of curiosity, are both tvs connected to their separate decoders using component?  If not, try setting up both tvs in the exact same fashion to their decoders (i.e. component).  If the media PC has DVI connection try using a DVI to HDMI cable or adapter to hook it up to the tv.
