Hey, I was just wondering how much would my system need in terms of power:

i5 4690k

windforce r9 280x (i know needs more than nvidia cards)

8gb ram ddr3

1tb hard drive

some z97 board

I was just wondering between the corsair 430m, seasonic 500W or the corsair rm650, which one of which would be able to power my build. I know that ill need over head room if I ever want to upgrade my system, but as of right now would any of these choices be able to run it. I chose these powersupplies because they are available locally from other people, wanted to buy from others because I live in Canada and prices are a bit different than US prices, didnt want to pay more+shipping+ taxes. I doubt the 430m would make it, really just the seasonic 50$ or rm650 85$.(might be able to lowball)

That system will use 300W of power if you squint. Don't waste your money on a higher wattage PSU and just get an EVGA GS 550W.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

350W* - 7970/280X draws about 250W and 100W for the rest of the system :P

Not with the RM650, those are CWT units, far from being "low quality"

well lower than say a seasonic and more expensive

The RMI is high quality but more expensive. Get your PSUs straight corsair

RM 650 is currently over $100 and is lower quality than say a GS 650 which ~$60-$70

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I doubt a 280X and Haswell/Skylake i5 draw as much as an overclocked 3770k and GTX 680 tho

Our PSUs are all straighten out, nothing to change in our current line up.

The RMis are indeed quality units, a bit expensive because of the Link compatibility. if you don't need Corsair Link, then you have the RMx as an alternative. And please don't tell me they are "lower" quality than its counterparts.

As for the pricing, It's up to the reseller how they want to set pricing. Different regions will have different demands which will translate to different pricing and promotions, If the retailer thinks that they can sell a particular SKU at a certain price point, it's totally up to them.

RM650 less than a $100, http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-80PLUS-Gold-Certified-Supply/dp/B00EB7UIRS

Not going to, they are great. The RMx is competitive, I didn't say anything bad about it.

And if anyone feels that the corsair link is worth the premium it is their choice.

Doesn't the suggested retail price affect anything? Can you not put limitations on the retailers?

That still doesn't make the Rm competitive..

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Okay, thanks for the help.

No problem!

I'd suggest the EVGA 550W GS or Antec HCG 520W if it's in your price range :)

This is true, however as I go down the list on realhardtechx about the various RMs they have the same names (RM650 for example) as older Chicony units. This makes it a bit sketchy to buy from sites like Amazon that use multiple retailers and perhaps don't match SKUs. It's just a small thing but, in the future (to whomever you can let know about this at Corsair), when doing product line updates like the RM, perhaps change the lineup's listed wattage entirely, even if it means under-speccing the power supplies (which people appreciate Seasonic for doing, for example). So let's say last year's lineup was the RM650/550/450W, next year do the 620W/520W/700W, etc.

Just a little thing that has bothered me about the CX/RM series specifically :)

I can get an EVGA 500W powersupply thought its only 80 plus. I can probably get it for 45$. Would this do the job?

It's not as good as an RM, if that's a question in there somewhere.
