GPU versus Intel HD Graphics

Where is the cut-off (if any) between using Intel HD Graphics (i7-4790K has Intel HD Graphics 4600 for example) and a dedicated graphics card in terms of performance?

 

What I am getting at here is say I buy a cheap $50 GPU, would the performance be better to use the onboard graphics instead?

 

Please consider the AMD and nVidia sides.

50$ are crap. Not worth the money.

Anything under the 100$ area will probably not have any significance performance gains.

You will start to see the difference when you get something like a R7 260x or GTX 750. Do not bother with any of the cheap cards like GT 730/740, etc.

i would say try to get a 7770 for about 60 USD on ebay
