Xfire 290 questions

I'm on the hunt for a Vapor-x 290 to crossfire with the one I have now. I have wife approval so launch sequence is go.

 

Questions. Should I see if my RM750 will handle it or is that a bad idea? Not in the budget so may put the brakes on the whole deal. The fan has never come on with my current 290, even with overclocking. So I had thought of giving it a try and seeing how it does. Is there a level of performance that can be expected by doing so? Say, 980 numbers?

 

My case is ready, everything is crossfire compatible. Also if anyone has a lead on a vapor-x 290 for around 300us I'd shit my pants. I won't go used unless absolutly nessesary, or a trusted source.

While there's better PSUs for Crossfiring, I wouldn't doubt that it'll be fine.

Yes it would work in Crossfire with your current R9 290 Vapor-X.

 

There's this Vapor-X for $380 on Amazon but from a 3rd party vendor. You could also wait until Amazon themselves have it in stock supposedly on November 2 to get it for $330

Yeah I saw that one. A ducky place had one for slightly less too. Not too keen on spending that much on a 290. Not too confident that the back order will fill, they're no longer made to my knowledge.

 

As for the 290x, which which would you place as the lead GPU? The Vapor-x has a backplate but the 290x should be stronger, right?

I don't know enough about crossfiring to know how this would translate to performance. Should the stronger card be on top, or doesn't it matter? The comment was made that the 290x is less powerful than the 290 so I responded asking if they meant the 280x.

But no it doesnt matter put the 290 on top so you see the fancy backplate. The 290x no matter where you put it as the faster card will slow down to match the pace of the slower card

Holy sh*t I just realised I might not have to replace my psu for two way r9 290

OK, Looked into it and found some Valley benchmarks with the 290x. My Vapor-x 290 can match the 290x at almost the same clock speed, which is odd but means I'm looking at two cards with very similar performance. Probably going to order it tomorrow.

 

One last question, which GPU do you plug into? Does that make a difference? I couldn't even find a Linus video that said much on this.
