Okay I have a alienware m17x R4. The Hard drive went bad so I replaced it. I loaded windows up and installed all the drivers minus the video drivers. When I went to install the latest geforce drivers I noticed that it wanted me to install the intel video drivers first. After the latest intel drivers were installed it rebooted and everything worked fine. Then I installed the latest Nvidia geforce driver and everything was fine until I rebooted. After restart the laptop will not boot into windows, it gets to the starting windows screen then the laptop shuts off every time. I was able to boot it into the safe mode and I used display driver uninstaller to completely uninstall both the nvidia and intel drivers while in the safe mode. After that was done I rebooted it and it booted into windows fine. I decided to install the OEM drivers for both intel and Nvida. The same problem. The computer works fine with intel drivers but once I install any Nvidia drivers my laptop just shuts off when trying to boot into windows. the bios and windows see the graphics card but I m wondering if the card is going bad or maybe something with the power delivery? any ideas or help is much appreciated.

Intel® Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 675M

Windows 7 64bit

Also if its relevant... I have noticed sometimes when I go to restart the computer it just shuts off instead of restarting.

The OEM drivers should work properly.

Nvidia optimus can be weird because the nvidia gpu is connected to the intel hd graphics, which then is connected to the monitor.

I had a samsung laptop with very similar specs, except it did not have nvidia optimus, so I'm not too sure what you could do, if both the OEM, and nvidia's drivers didnt work

so I made sure everything was up do date minus the video drivers. I installed the oem drivers from dell and rebooted and again it starts up but the entire laptop shuts off the moment it gets past the starting windows screen. Do you think maybe its just not getting enough power to run the gpu? If that was the case I would assume I would just get no video but not just the computer shutting off completely.
