I was planning on upgrading my GTX 560Ti to something more powerful. I was looking for a card somewhere around 400 bucks. Is the GTX 770 worth it?

It's great but the 7970 performs just as well, has more vram, and is significantly cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202008&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Get the 770 if you need CUDA or phys x.

7970 is a better value for money card :) Unless you need nvidia specific features like shadowplay, cuda or physx :D

^^

However, as also stated above, if you need CUDA, like I do for rendering, NVIDIA is a god. Physx is also a great feature! Never heard of Shadowplay. If you go for a 7970 you can get hold of Eyefinity as well, and more V-RAM. However, the GTX 770 is still an absolute BEAST! My super-clocked EVGA one is insanely fast, and pretty darn quiet. I highly recommend it for those who need value, performance and NVIDIA features.

Horses for courses mate :) If gaming is all he will be doing then a 7970 will do the same job at a 770 :)

Also Shadowplay is nvidias upcoming software which utilizes the onboard h 264 encoder to actually function as a screen capture software with nearly no performance hit :D

Thanks for telling me what Shadowplay is, if it is no performance hit and looks good, I'm chucking DXTory out the window!

Why not wait for the 9000series ;3

Thanks for saying that, I completely forgot to add that :3

If you play twitch fps games then your fps is everything, and having a 770 over a 7970 for a smoother overall frame rate could be the difference between life and death.

When I toss up between an AMD or a nVidia that are around the same price and perform around the same, I go for nVidia every time. I'm not a fanboi by any means, and I've had both sides running in my system, they just feel better.

I was having the same dilemma a couple of months ago. GTX 770 is a newer a card and performs slightly better than a HD 7970. You can't go wrong with either of them. However I finally decided to go with the GTX 770, because of GPU Boost 2.0 and faster GDDR5 RAM. My GTX 770 is not a good overclocker, but I still managed to get it to run at 1306MHz on the core and 8GHz on the memory. At those clock speeds it smokes all other overclocked HD 7970s.

For some reason in Japan (where I live) the sapphire 7970 (600$) costs more than the Zotac GTX 770 (486$) on Amazon.

I think you're looking at the wrong 7970's.

I've read these posts and I'm starting to build or planning my first build and wondering which card to get and which is better for my needs... and they are just to play games like Far Cry 3, Bf3, League of legends, Starcraft 2, those kinda games which graphics card overall would be better for those kinda games?

Do you think that one's reliable?

Yes. It comes from PowerColor which despite some popular opinion, comes out with good graphics cards.

Should I wait for the AMD 9000's to come out?

Yes. You have more options if you do.
