Need confirmation about the i3-4170

Go to solution Solved by Muncheyz,

should work no problem

most recent boards have updated bioses - should be okay

You could get an H97 board to be safe, but it should work out of the box with an H81 board.

Alright cool, thanks guys, just putting together a budget build for a friend. So much appreciated from both of us.

I have browsed around and done everything to find out, and i'm convinced, but you can never be too sure.

Does the i3-4170 really work on a H81 board without a bios updates (hypothetically speaking the BIOS are out of date maybe)?

If I googled around correctly, i couldn't find anyone saying there was issues. It's no problem if this is incorrect.

It is appreciated if there is a source that can be linked that confirms either works or not working correctly, i may have missed it along the road.

Looking at the wiki it says that you might need a bios update. you could just google a specific board and the cpu together to see any issues popping up.
And updating a bios btw is not a hard thing to do, plenty of guides!

Just to be sure you could always check the manufactures website.  Most motherboards should have CPU Support list.

I found that most of the cheaper H81 matx boards didn't have the 4170 on their list, which is why I'm going to use a B85 board for my brother's computer.

It is hard to update a Bios. without a CPU.

Go try it. It is facinating how you do that when you have no way of getting past POST
