Good GPU for under $300

nickschoemehl

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good GPU under $300. I have a 430W PSU and i'm wondering if i need a new one for the new GPU. Right now I have a AMD Radeon HD 6450 (My brother isn't very tech savvy and got me it for Christmas last year). I'm interested in a Radeon R9 270x or GTX 970/960. if I get those do I need a different PSU?

Thanks,

Nick

the 290/x is still really good for the price. Although I dont know the price of the 290x, somewhere around $290 as opposed to the 290s price of around $260. But you can easily over lock the 290 to the performance of a 290x.

Should i get the gpu from Newegg or Amazon or which site?

Both site very reliable and safe to use. I suggest going for website which has cheaper price and shipping. Be careful of seller on Amazon if its is not sold and ship from Amazon, fulfilled from Amazon. If this is case then make sure you research seller before buy to make sure it legit.

You can get this Gigabyte 380 for $219, or $199 after rebate. You will need a new power supply though, that'll run you around $70. The Silverstone ST65EF (650 watts) will probably be the best choice, as it comes from a quality manufacturer and can supply 50 amps on the 12v rail, so you won't be running it at high load, while also leaving plenty of room to upgrade (a single high end card of this generation, or perhaps even Xfire or SLI high end cards once the next generation of graphics card release). Also, don't buy Nvidia at this price point. The AMD cards are so far ahead in performance at this price point it's no longer a question of "should I pay a premium for nvidia" - it's a question if you should settle for substantially less at the same price.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.
