STILL better than an XBox

The Story

So a year ago, I was at a White Elephant and my friend got a broken PS3. No Blu-ray drive, no HDD, no buttons. he was bummed. I immediately saw this as an opportunity to make a quick buck of a simple fix me up. I bought the POS off him for $20 and then priced out repairs. The total investment would've been $100. I didn't feel like sinking $100 into a mystery box so it just sat in my room as the biggest paper weight of all time. Then I had a stroke of genius. I'll use this thing as a decoration. BRILLIANT. My PS3 clock had spawned. 

 

Importance

Now I know we are all die hard PC guys here but let's face it, consoles were that intro into gaming. and frankly, that's were I began. I grew up on the PS2 and the occasional PS1. Spyro was my game of choice with Crash Bandicout at a close second. Hours upon hours of my childhood were logged on Medal of Honor Rising Sun and another countless more on Need For Speed Underground 2. This is how much childhood went. All on the good ole Playstation. I had never owned an XBox till i was 15. Never really played it though. Played through the first 2 Halos and I was over XBox. To me, the PlayStation has alwatys been my touch of childhood, that "Videogame-Virgin Destroyer" so to speak :D. I wanted this clock made just so i can always remember those good ole times spent on my multiple generations of PlayStation

 

The Mod

Basically, i grabbed my dremel, grabbed an Atomic clock (because why not), and grabbed some hot glue.

 

I first cut a hole into the faceplate. Pretty easy minus all the melted plastic flying everywhere.

 

Then I disassembled the clock stripping it to simply an antenna, PCB, and LCD.

 

Next, I mounted the LCD to the PS3 back with a faceplate fitted for it and some hot glue. 

 

Then I reattached the PCB and then hotglued the antenna.

 

i had to cut out the battery compartment so i could, well, use batteries :D

 

I had to put the button labels back on or else i'd forget whats what :p

 

after all's securely mounted with hot glue i then put some picture frame wire around the inside edge and hot glued it.

 

all's secure and hung on my wall

I plan on putting a gasket around the border of the clock. The plastics very rough and unfortunately i couldn't smooth it out.

it would've been fun to put an ITX system in it but i couldn't afford it :p nor could i justify it.

ive got an old xbox original with a blown psu (my fault, oh and you played the wrong games btw, pgr2, forza?) and i might turn that into an itx/matx build seeing as it was the first pc based console....

Forza is made by microsoft so it was never made for PS3 but i did however buy my brother Forza 4 for his birthday and was blown away by that.

i meant for the xbox, i went psx, ps2, xbox, xbox 360, pc, got a ps3, never played it other than for gt5 (played gt1 european in km/h, gt1 us version in mph, gt2 (twin disc), gt3 a spec, gt4 so had to try gt5...sucks)

ps3 has better hardware but the games and online suck (much like ps4 vs One)

i tried halo and was "meh" but im a car nut..

forza was awesome, nfsu1/2 series looks much better than ps2, the controls are more intuitive and the sticks better placed than PS, PGR 2 is awesome graphically (my friend is trying forza 2 and its pretty much the same, still looks awesome, handling surpasses GT series) ghost recon advanced warfighter is awesome, graphically its no cod but changable loadouts...in 1999...

give the xbox original/360 a try if you havent already and try these games, you can get a 360 for next to nothing these days, i get the feeling paystation fanboys and nvidia fanboys are like apple fanboys, they beleive that because thiers costs more it MUST be better and will loyally stick with them untill proven otherwise at which point they will point out "yeah but it has better drivers" or "yeah but online is free" or "but its aluminium so its higher quality" and other rubbish that frankly isnt true or doesnt matter and you either a) give up leaving them blissfully ignorant or b) carry on for another day wasting your time making yourself seem like a toolbag.
