Booting from External DVD

PlamenDrop
Go to solution Solved by Senzelian,

Hey,

I need to install Windows 10 Home 64bit onto my new rig, but I do not have a built-in CD/DVD drive because my case does not support it. I do however have an external USB DVD drive. If I insert the Windows CD into the USB player, will I be able to boot from USB?

I feel like this would work, but I wanted a second opinion. My MoBo is an ASRock Exreme4 if it matters. (remember, this is about the OS, not my choice of MoBo...)

Thanks!

Yes, that works.

I did that myself with an external optical drive and it worked fine.

Yes, Maybe... You might have to select the boot option in the bios.

It should work. You should look at the boot priority in the BIOS. And be careful with front panel USB and USB 3.0 as they will probably screw it up.

Yes, I've done this many a time. Just check the boot priorities in the BIOS and boot from the drive.
