This will have better performance than the i5-6400 out of the box, and it's unlocked so in the future you can do some overclocking and get even more performance out of it if needed, but even at stock it wont limit the performance of your GTX980 in games.

alright so im trying to upgrade my cpu on a prebuilt pc and i dont understand how can i tell if my mobo is compatable if the mobo name is m52bc which happens to be the name of my prebuilt so should i just buy a cpu and if it doesnt work send it back i am hoping to get a intel i5 or higher but i dont want to have to mess around with compatability give me some advice please

Download a program like speccy, it'll tell you what motherboard & cpu you have. From there you can find out what socket it is and find out what you need to upgrade it.

Well you have an top AM3+ CPU so there really is no upgrading. Sadly the FX 8--- CPU's just aren't great.

ok forget that question but one more thing are you sure that that the cpu will not bottleneck because the mhz are lower than my current or are the mhz irrelevant

nope..it will be fine

any i5 can keep up with any single gpu card
