wd red

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

yes definitely, its just a HDD

a really good one too

almost as fast as a WD black, but with lower noise and longer lifespan

Is it usable in a desktop system. My use case is going to include the drive having to have a large amount of files write to it and then deleted. Were talking around 500gb per month probably. Since i really dont need huge performance but more reliability. will the wd red work for this scenario.

And in case your wondering no its not what u may think it is(downloading porn or some shit). Its files from an application called lawena which i use to record demos from tf2 competitive matches. and the recordings are huge.

Sure.  Reds are pretty darn good for your usage.  I write way more than 500GB per month on my 4TB WD Red, and I'm getting another soon.

~snip~

Hey there acdcman200,

WD Red drives are designed for NAS and RAID usage. Their features won't be utilized if used in a regular desktop and will work pretty much like a regular WD Green. I would recommend looking at WD Black for heavier, longer and more intensive workloads as it's designed just for that. They provide more performance, have longer warranty and are produced specifically for faster and longer usage in regular desktops and workstations.
