Operating System taking a while...

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

- Disable Legacy USB from your UEFI

- Disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module) in the UEFI

- Make sure your SATA cables are well connected everywhere

- Make sure that your SATA controller is set to AHCI mode

- Make sure you boot from the disk as EFI mode if you have the option to do so.

- Unplug any USB peripherals attacked to the system beside a standard keyboard and mouse.

- Remove any overclock settings you did

- Make sure that X.M.P is set to Profile 1 in your UEFI

- If your case or you have an SD card reader, remove it.

- Change your SSD/HDD SATA cable.

If that doesn't work

 - Try and disable your CPU visualization features in the UEFI (if it works, and once setup, you should be able to enable it again, and have no problem)

 - Check for faulty RAM. Remove all stick, and use 1 at a time (refer to the motherboard manual to know where the stick should installed)

 - Use another system and a USB flash drive and get the latest BIOS/UEFI for your system, and put the downloaded file extracted in your USB flash drive (formatted as FAT32) and refer to the manual of your motherboard on how to update it.

Hi, just built my PC and am installing Windows 8.1 on it. I started at around 8:45 this morning and right now it's 2:33 and it's still got just a loading screen. Is it normal for it to take over 5 1/2 hours to install Windows? Or is my optical drive just really slow?

Here's my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ywxNbv

Your optical drive shouldn't be that slow. Try restarting the installation process.

It still doesn't seem to be working... All I see is a window and the spinning dots on the bottom, but it isn't transitioning to the pick your language part. Is my disc bad or is my optical drive bad or something?

I couldn't find where to disable CSM. I did all the other things and booted it up but still not working. I'm going to get a flash drive and try installing it from microsofts website then booting from the flash drive in case it's a problem with my optical drive.

Sounds like a sound plan. Maybe your optical drive is faulty as you are suggesting.

If you don't see CSM, in your UEFI, look if there is a switch for an option form Legacy/UEFI or BIOS/UEFI, or something along the line. Basically disable all legacy stuff.

It will probably not fix your problem, but it should be set regardless as you are installing a fully UEFI ready OS (windows 8).

It finally worked! I disabled legacy completely then booted from the disc and now I have 8.1 up and running. Thanks for the tips bro!
