You should check this out instead, and use this for the limitations of different types of bootloader.

As you're new to Linux, I recommend starting with a distribution that has graphical installer (such as Ubuntu, which uses the Ubiquity installer), and use the desktop environment you want.

I agree, if you're new to Linux then you should use an easier variant.

Linux can be difficult just by itself even with a GUI.

It's not a race to the bottom.

ok thanks for the info ! can i make a costum theme for ubuntu without those icons (the sidebar thing) ?

Scrap Ubuntu and get Ubuntu Gnome instead, Gnome is so much better at allowing customisation than Unity is.

Yeah, Arch is not really for newcomers.

I actually recommend Kubuntu. It'll give you all Ubuntu has but replace Unity with KDE out of the box. KDE is quite customisable, and it (and the Ubuntu family) have great community support, so you'll have a good time with that. Of course, installing other desktop enviroments is possibile as well.

You can also try Mageia. Community and software support is not nearly as good as Ubuntu stuff, but it does come with lots of desktop enviroments out of the box, so you can just screw around a little and see what you like, and then settle. Also, it looks really nice out of the box.
