im getting into making and rendering videos and is the i5 4670k at 4.5 ghzs with max temps of 50C still good or do i need to upgrade to a cpu with more cores and hyper threading?

It is worth it! I'm having trouble with my 4690. I'm going to get the Xeon 1231v3 CPU Within 2 weeks.

You can get the Xeon for $270

I was also gonna say 1232v3 if you want 4 cores 4 threads, for around $250

I need the 8 threads. 4 Cores and 4 threads is just not enough for me anymore. I make videos for people, and myself.

Yes, AMD 8350 is good at Rendering. Intel's i7 CPUs have 4 cores and 8 threads. (LGA1150 and LGA1151) Their X99 platform has 6, 8.

But Remeber 4 cores and 8 threads are different.

Here is a video on what Hyperthreading means:

You said you need 8 thread you're not making any sence when you say 4 cores and 4 threads isn't enough, but yet 8 cores is enough? amd doesn't have hyperthreading

OK I was considering each core as a core plus one thread i was just thinking of it in a different way than you i wasn't counting a core as a thread like i should've

but are i7s better?

Unless you get the i7 4790K and overclock it. Then no, similar performance.

so a xeon or a 4790ki or skylake

Skylakes are not worth the price. Price to performance is not good.

Whatever you find cheap. Mostly the Xeon would be cheaper.
