I need to hack into my own hard drive

Blimeyharry

I wasn't able to find this problem on the forum already so I'm just starting a new topic. Sorry if this is miscategorized, however I think it's more about software than hardware.

Long story short, my old computer stopped working but I know the hard drive is perfectly fine. I removed it and put it in an external drive case. Now I can connect it to my new computer. Alas, I am locked out of my own hard drive!

I don't know of any method to bypass the user permissions. I've tried a few different things you might do to a regular external hard drive but to no avail.

I can add details if they're needed but I think the brand and specifics of the hardware shouldn't be relevant to getting access. Could be wrong.

Boot into a live linux distro, copy over what you need, and then re-format? :)

Eeh, by gum.
