Hi, I have done a quick google search but seem to be searching for the wrong things.

I am looking to move my mums PC to a VM on my server running windows server 2012.

I know how to convert it to a VM, but what I am wondering is:

How do I set up a low powered 'thin' spare pc as a client to be able to access just the VM over the network?

So basically the 'thin' pc acts as a remote desktop client for the VM. But I want it so its seamless, she just turns on the pc, asks her to login like usual and done.

My university does this but I think they use citrix or something.

Im looking for a free solution that dosent involve running a full copy of windows, logging in, initiating a remote desktop and then accessing the pc.

Sorry for all the writing! Thanks!!!

It's called a terminal server, I've only persoanlly set it up on linux using LTSP, but quick glance at this and I think it's probably what you want

If that's not what you're looking for I'll look a little harder.

As for the logging in part, idk. Might be able to have no password? Anyway a thin client or a tower set up as one will network boot right to the login screen, that I can guarantee. I don't know if you can get around using a log in screen, never thought to try that

That part I'm not too worried about setting up, its more the client itself
