Arma III Beta statistic

Dr3nz4r

Hey guys i want to setup a statistic, which can be then provided to Bohemia Interactive, so they finally get something done in terms of CPU and GPU optimization.

So If you do play Arma III follow the guidelines:

Set everything ingame to the highest possible setting (except FSAA which shold be set to 4x,PPAA which shall be set to FXAA Ultra, and the Overall / Object visibility both to 3000 just check my screenshots)

Download the attached Zip File from the Post (The Benchmark was not made by me!)

extract it to ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arma 3\Missions\

Go into the game, Press Play -> Scenarios and select the Benchmark

Then start the Benchmark provided below, and post your result like this:

----------------------------------------------------

CPU : AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @3.2Ghz (stock)

MB   : Asus M5A78L LE

GPU : Gigabyte GTX 660Ti OC @ 1032Mhz/3004Mhz <- Core/Memory clock in this order

RAM : 16 Gb 1333MhZ  <- brand is not relevant

Res  : 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz

Build : 0.77.109136 DEV Build

I hope a lot of people will participate, and I'm really looking forward in seeing a more fluent gameplay anytime soon and yes this will make a difference, then just these tickets with : I got this and this hardware, its running on 20fps help me!, because this is all static, everyone has the same settings (except resolution) the same actions going on the same time etc.

Notice: People with lower res then 1080p please use Sampling xxx% to achive 1080p atleast

EDIT: dont forget to run the test maybe two to three times and take the middlest result, for redundency

Please read and do research on the Bohemia Interactive forums in regards to CPU and GPU utilization for reasons on where, how, and why there is bottlenecking. It will also have some details on the demanding nature of the game.

Demanding them to make more use of cpu/gpu simply does not work.

Arma 3 and the game series are very demanding because of all simulation required. Unlike your run of the mill games such as battlefield 3/4 or COD which run in small maps use scripted animations and effects; Arma has the full map in memory at all times while calculating every event that is occurring in detail in the opposite corner of that map. The full fledged AI requires a lot of power to keep their actions realistic.

Arma games also do not require full 60fps at all times. It is not a twitch shooter. It should not be compared to one.

I know you're not trying to compare arma to other military shooters based on performance etc but coming from the BI forums, a lot of people do that. They think because their computer runs battlefield 3 at 60fps on ultra, it should run Arma 3 at 60fps on ultra, but it doesn't work like that.

Has that benchmark been updated? I remember awhile back it got a bunch of scripting errors with an arma patch. I will run it and post my results when I get a chance.

Once again I apologize if I come off as irritated, I've just dealt with this subject so many times on the BI forums I try to ignore those threads now ;)

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.

Just ran the test mission several times.

With everything on max I get 28 FPS. That includes 12000 view distance, 12000 object distance, 200 shadow, 8x AA, etc.

When I drop down to 3000/3000 view/object I get 37 FPS

CPU : 3770k @ 4.6Ghz

GPU : 7970 1155/1600

RAM : 16 Gb 1600MhZ  <- brand is not relevant

Res  : 1920 x 1080 @ 120Hz

Build : Latest DEV

I do have a crossfire 7970, however crossfire is disabled and I was mining Litecoins on my other GPUS while running this.

My Gaming computer is set up more as a coin miner right now, which makes me lower clocks on various things and use settings which go against game optimization a little. If I took the time to bring my rig up to full capabilities I'm sure I could get a higher FPS, infact, I've gotten much higher on other Arma Mark benchmark scenarios in the past. Regardless of that, the game is still fully playable and enjoyable.

Normally I would run a Ramdisk and place a few of the most accessed files on it, but for convenience I left it as is from my reading from my drive.

The only setting I cannot max is Terrain quality as once you pass I think 5000 view distance, the highest setting becomes very high and ultra is removed from the selection list.

config settings that matter.

I'm totally aware, that those optimizations could not be done like *snip* and I do also know that for playing arma not more then 30 fps is needed, but as you can see my FPS do sit at the 19 mark on singleplayer benches.. If i do join on a server with ist's even worse optimized Dedicated server configurations such as recommendes by BI my maximum fps i can get is 12 (when starring on a wall) while the overall server performence alows the server to run at avg of 97FPS. And this server is not running wasteland.. just some COop mission provided by BI itself.

As you said there is bottlenecking in the game, and I do also agree with that. Thier Nwtworking code makes the game for everyone on a server unplayable if someone got a higher ping. They should completly rewrite thier networking solution before they start to optimize the GPU/CPU usage.

Furthermore this thread is designed to Compare results, and show off BI where some problems are. A big Problem right now is that the AMD CPU architecture is not that well supported. If you take a look at the people with a Bulldozer CPU or and FX basically, they get even worse fps (mostly). Compared to Intel users which (mostly) get way better FPS.

Thank you for your Results, you ahve posted here. I'm looking forward that more people participate. This may also give people who want to build a new PC and want to play Arma a good Idea of which Parts works best for the Game.
