Windows 10 Screen tearing on desktop

it might be the chip for nvenc thats causing the problem..I would test with another gpu and see if it does it

So I grabbed another 980 and put it in my system, and so far i have been able to play 2 full comp games while recording with no issues. 

The chip for nvenc failing is my running theory, and I have contacted gigabyte for an RMA :(

Unfortunately I only get to keep this 980 until tomorrow morning, and then I have to use a 750ti :(

First off, specs!

 

Windows 10 X64 Pro 

Drivers 358.50 (happens on betas, and previous versions)

CPU: Core i7 4790K (Currently no OC)

RAM: 16 GB DDR3 Teamskill

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 980 Windforce (OC's like a rejected G1 Gaming, currently no OC)

Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 7

PSU: Cooler Master V850

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

Storage: Lots. 

 

 

About a week before windows 10 came out (Was running windows 8.1 x64 Pro) my issue first popped up. 

Insane screen tearing, everywhere. 

Desktop, games, fullscreen games, videos, etc.

The only place I didn't see it was the BIOS.

 

It was't until one day I forgot to turn on shadowplay before attempting to play a game that I realized it was to blame. 

It works perfectly fine everywhere as long as shadowplay is off. 

My first reaction was that the xbox app recording thing was causing a conflict so I disabled it; nope.

 

I also just fresh installed windows 10, and the issue is still present (However much harder to see).

 

Any ideas?

Do you have it set to be always recording so you can hit a button and capture the last X seconds, or do you just trigger it manually?  And if it's the former, do you have it set to allow recording the desktop?

I have it set to constantly record so I can catch the cool moments, and yes, I have it set to allow desktop recording, as I play in borderless windowed.

Well I can't say for sure but that might be the cause.  Any reason you're not using fullscreen?  If that works, you should be able to turn off recording on desktop, and hopefully that will solve it.

 

Also, that looks like the old version of GeForce Experience... has it not prompted you to update?  It's always possible that being an old version is the problem.

Well I can't say for sure but that might be the cause.  Any reason you're not using fullscreen?  If that works, you should be able to turn off recording on desktop, and hopefully that will solve it.

 

Also, that looks like the old version of GeForce Experience... has it not prompted you to update?  It's always possible that being an old version is the problem.

I'm not using fullscreen so I can tab out and do stuff during deaths (I have multiple screens, you come to appreciate borderless windowed very quickly), but I will disable desktop recording and see if it still screen tears. 

As for geforce experience, it's version 2.5.15.46 (Latest).

This link here is telling me that i'm on the latest version.. Can you find me the actual latest version?

Also, changing to fullscreen and disabling desktop recording does nothing to improve the situation.

EDIT:  2.6.1.10 is beta, I will opt in to that and test it.

Nope, beta driver + GFE does nothing to make it better. 

 

Then a have to assume that it's having it in "always recording mode" that's causing it... but it should know not to when turning off desktop recording but whatever
