Is this GPU Okay?

Go to solution Solved by daonlypoo,

The card should be fine, and DX12 support isn't really an issue right now as next to nothing's been written and updated to take advantage of it yet.  I say go for the card if the price is right; the performance will be adequate, (it doesn't sound like you're expecting amazing results which is good, I think the card will fit your needs perfectly), and in one or two years when more games are being written to properly utilize DX12 you can move up to a more powerful card after you've saved some money.

Well, i was originally going to buy a GTX 960 for a 24 inch monitor 1080 of course, then on my local retailers website an ultrawide 29" gaming monitor went on sale (2560x1080) so i ordered it, will an r9 285 run GTAV on Medium at 60+FPS, Ark survival on Medium to High 60+FPS And some JustCause Series And Battle Front all at 60FPS+? and if not do you reccomend one around the price of a GTX 960/R9 285, with 4gigs of vram, hoping to add a second one later

Firstly, the r9 285 will run ark on 1080p stable 60fps.(Medium, High) But I doubt it will on the 2560x1080.

It should get around the 50-55 mark.

Ark is weird because some areas have really high fps and some areas really low.

GTA V can run 2560x1080 60fps for sure, but with a bit of give and take.

The GTX 960 is already having problems at 1080p Ultra on some games 2560x1080 might be kinda pushing it.(Ultra at least)

Oh signature time!  It's on now, gonna give ya somethin snarky and clever and think way too hard about this because I'm really concerned about what people on the internet think of me.  Better google some good quotes to put in here too.....oh wait I'm not a loser.

That is a good card.

go 970 or there is a slightly cheap 290X. Also the 285 DOES NOT support DX12 and I don't think the 960 does either

Both these card support DX12, Just not every feature level.

ARK at high-medium 60FPS on that monitor? NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN :P My 970 is struggling around 25FPS whilst running ARK on high-medium on a 1080p monitor.

First logical answer are you talking about the 290x or the 285? but thanks

No worries brother, I was referring to the 285 but if you found a 290x for a good price and have the PSU to handle it then go for it man.  That's an absolutely wonderful card and you'll be maxing damn near everything on the market, but the 285 will serve your needs just fine too if you want to save a bit of money.  Either way you'll be satisfied bro :)
