M.2 worth getting? or just wait for them to go down in price.

LaboonTheWhale

Hey all

So I'm looking at M.2 storage because all my SATA ports are full. I see the regular 2.5" 500gb ssd's going on sale for about $150 but i hardly see the M.2 versions going on sale.

I dont NEED it right now but as things are getting full its something that would be nice to have.

it would be cheaper to upgrade your storage to bigger drives than to add M.2 storage

My 4 other SSD's are already 500Gigs. 1TB is just way too much.

m-itx board.

what about PCIe SATA controller? then you will have many more ports rather than just one M.2

wellshit that is $150 lol. I've never actually heard of the brand. are they decent?

Mushkin is pretty OK for stuff like this. You'll get decent read/write speeds.

The GPU needs somewhere to sit.

That thing is pretty good, although I would use a PCIe-SSD instead of this one...

I already found him an option for now, but, yes, CM will bring some OK deals for SSD storage. I don't know about M.2, though, as M.2 storage last CM didn't drop too much.

I'm pretty sure the 500gb evo m.2 is the same price as the SATA one. Though also the same speed you won't be really getting any advantage from it being m.2 other than the fact that you have no more sata space.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-EVO-3-5-Inch-MZ-N5E500BW/dp/B00TGIW1XG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444545394&sr=8-1&keywords=850+evo+m.2

However what you can do it's just get one of these:

And if you can spare front usb 3.0 headers one of these:

That way even though it will be recognized as a USB drive the speed should be enough for a sata SSD and it will technically be all internal
