Help clearning Cmos

I have a GA-78LMT-usb3 6.0 gigabyte mobo.

I trying to clear an error on start up stating the system's history of having a failed boot up due to an overclock, I have long fixed this issue and set out to fix the error message. From what I've read it says i have to reset to CMOS. My mobo does not have a Cmos jumper and the only way i see to do this was to remove the battery. After I pop the battery out for a 5ish minutes i put it back in and start up and once i get  past the first screen it says I have a  Post Error Cmos Checksum and then asks me to set my bios to default. Am I doing something wrong? Do i have to do a boot cycle without the battery in for the cmos to clear?

Setting it default is how Gigabyte does it. You're doing it exactly right.

Well I am trying to do a rather simple overclock, setting an 8320 to 4ghz. But now when I set the speed to 4000mhz and bump up the vcore a notch I am still getting the warning. I was told  clearning cmos will fix that.

There are two ways I know of clearing the CMOS.

1) Remove the circular battery from the motherboard for a few seconds.

2) Flip the switch on your PSU, and hold the case power button on for 35 seconds.

getting that error, means something in the BIOS is out of range and cannot pass

POST without errors. so more than likely when overclocking, you are not giving

enough configuration of the BIOS to complete the boot process or the BIOS

is damaged (corrupt) to continue. verify latest BIOS (F4) is in use.
