6700k compatible ram?

Go to solution Solved by mikat,

The specs for the 6700k say it only supports up to 2133MHz ram, will this ram still work with it? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-hx424c15fbk216

you need to enable XMP for the higher speeds, but yes the ram will work

yes. most if not all chips will support 3000mhz+

All DDR4-compatible Intel processors (all the way up to the i7-5960X) claim support for DDR4-2133 only. They can actually support very high (4000+) frequencies with XMP. I'm running DDR4-2666 on my i5-6600K system.

How does one enable XMP?

It depends on how your motherboard's BIOS is organized. Here it is on my board, along the left edge:

I'm also planning to get an asus mobo, so I just change that one thing and it works? And it's safe? I'm new to building computers.

Yeah, you just set it from 'Disabled' to 'Profile #1,' then hit F10 to save settings and reboot. That's all you have to do manually. The board will set the memory to 2400 MHz, and adjust the timings to their correct settings for the DIMMs.

It's safe. Memory is meant to be run at the settings advertised. The only thing that is truly "unsafe" is very high voltage, but that kit is rated for the DDR4 standard of 1.2 V.

Simply never run anything overclocked it will be bad for system stability if you wanne overclock your 6700K simply buy 2133Mhz no matter what the CPU just does not like it soo much....

But this build will work, right? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BGmx3C

The CPU, the MOBO, and RAM? I haven't picked a GPU yet as you can see.
