I'm about to begin rebuilding my pc..

At the moment I'm using PVC tubes in a custom loop, but I'm not too happy with the looks.. b19e86cd015ae223995b01f84a14542d.jpg

I'm switching to chrome copper tubing for better loomks.. But as I've never worked with hard tubing before, I was wondering if anyone had some advice?

Measure twice cut once, I know.. [emoji1]

Have you watched youtube videos on JayzTwoCents? He does a lot of watercooling stuff and gives a lot of advice on picking tubing and how to work with it, etc. I don't watercool myself so I can't give you advice like some other people on here can, but I do know you will need a tool designed for bending the specific kind of tubing you will be using. If you don't bend it properly, you will get kinks for sure which looks like a problem you were having in your current built too.

Advice, buy alot of more tube than you theoretically need.

This... Buy double what you think you need. Especially if its your first time.

  • 3 weeks later...

Soo...

I've managed to get along quite well, I think..

I had a lot of help from a friend cutting and bending plates to cover the drive cages, the bottom compartment and the area next to the motherboard..

Another friend helped med with some LN2 to remove the heat spreader on my Corsair Dominator RAM

- Please don't do this! I broke two sticks as Corsair uses A LOT of thermal glue and it is a very aggressive method! I ended up tearing 3 chips off of the PCB on two sricks.. In stead I found that it's much more safe and less brutal to soak them in a bath of isopropyl alcohol and wait till the clue is dissolved.. But it loads of fun doing it!

Next problem i need advice on is on thermal pads..

On the RAM sticks I'm placing a 0,5 mm thermal pad onto the memory chips as instructed and supplied by EK with their Monarch modules..

On the Corsair PCB there's an area I need to cool on the PCB it self. The height of the memory chip is, according to Corsair, 1 mm.

Will a piece of thermal pad 1,5 mm thick be the right thickness to make sure I have contact from the PCB to the Monarch Modules?

Thanks.. I'm using fittings in the bends to get them as tight as possible..

You really need to work on your routing if you're going hardline.

Keep it clean!

  • 2 months later...

So with moving into our new house, the Holidays and hosted the party for New Years Eve I've not had a lot of time. I did get a days work put into the thing yesterday, though.. This is the result..

fc80e80234c01ffbffd2742208c894e2.jpg

I need to redo the bottom plate, as the placing of the pump is a bit off..

Then I need to rout all the cables and figure out an easy way of connecting them to the fan controller in the bottom..

And I need to make the pipes.. After installing the LTT fans I'm waiting for..

  • 1 year later...

So.. It has now taken me 2 years (!) to get this done.. Though I have been distracted by other stuff as well.

I've redone the PC completely, changing  the cooling setup quite a bit.

I went with a dual loop, using BitsPower RES, fittings ang chrome copper tubes. I've redone EVERY single wire in the correct length and sleeved all cables.

The 16 fans are controlled by an Aquaro 6 LT, 5 LT, a PowerAdjust 2+3 ULTRA and lighting runs off a Farbwerk.

I really like the way it looks.. But it's going to be a PAIN to figure out which, if any, cable is defect ect., as I need to disassemble everything to got to the bottom compartment.

The hard tubing was actually very easy to work with. I started out trying to use different pipe cutters, but in the end I used a vise and a hacksaw - as that gave the best result.

In hindsight, the Corsair 900D is not as suited to this level of cooling and cable management (as in "Hiding ALL cablemess"). I should have gotten a case with two compartments from CaseLabs, as the Magnum TH10 or the Mercury S8 or similar. That would have given me a much simpler time of hiding cables, radiators and fans from the visible area.

My next step will be leak testing and then powering it on again. I predict many hours of frustration and headache, trying to diagnose faulty cables..
