Server not connectable

So my friend and I decided after a long time to play Minecraft again. I made a server and when he wanted to connect he got the error: failed to login: javaj.net.connectException:connection timed out:connect

I've set Hamachi on both pc's to private network. But now i'm out of options that i know of.

Running lan via Hamachi, he sees the lan world show up. with the Server.exe we got the same problem. I'm 100% sure i've set it up correctly.

Cant you just open ports and give him your IP? Imo its better
