upgrade gpu and freesync or gsync

Hi there.

So I'm thinking of upgrading to either gsync or Freesync. So I can get this Acer XG270HU at a very cheap price here. In South African Rand it's R8779 but I would have to upgrade my gpu either way. So I was thinking of changing my qnix for this monitor and get either a r9 390/390x or AMD fury. So I can also get the monitor now keep my graphics cards till next year when the new gpu's launch but by then monitors would have evolve enough so I can get a ultra wide screen with good refresh rate.

So what do you guys think? is the experience any better on gsync or freesync or is it about the same. I would love to have stutter free or almost stutter free gameplay but also don't want to rush out on something that isn't as good now as I think it is. Also do you guys think that monitor is any good or can someone suggest me alternative that cost more but is way better?

I'm also looking at the ASUS MG279Q. now what worries me is the 90hz max refresh rate when using freesync. I'm no AMD fanboy and can go Nvidia or AMD. I just like it that AMD is a bit cheaper now.

So this is my important specs:

R9 280x crossfire

Qnix qx2710 @ 96hz

Now as you can see I would have to upgrade both. This Qnix has served me well but I get the benefits of upgrading to a monitor that I don't have to overclock to get better support although a more expensive I don't mind. But I also think I should wait a bit and get the next gpu's coming out next year cause they will be optimized for DX12, Vulcan etc and that might be worth the wait and get the monitor then.

So what do you guys think? is it wise to upgrade or should I just hang in their and upgrade then. It's not that I'm having a completely bad experience it's just that I get lot's of stutter in games due to fps drops in some of my games.

I play with this thougts too! But for me i stick with AMD because i dont like the art of business from team green.

So for me, a Monitor upgrade must have at least 1440p and a high refresh rate + freesync (< when i upgrade than all features pls!)

Either the XG270HU or the Samsung U28E590D (< this because 4k ... and i get the samsung stuff without tax, so maybe)

the MG279Q is sorted out... for this price, this "panel-lottery" is a no go for me. You may can get a good one but maybe you will send 3 back before you get one that fits you expectations.

But when you go with the ASUS make sure you take a model after 05.2015 this Models got the new Firmware that kills the Hz-Bug

XG270HU is the perfect "budget"-solution on my opinion.

Thanks for the info

Sorry forgot to mention the XG270HU is a TN Panel without a VESA Mount, just to consider!

ASUS and the Samsung are IPS

here are a good spreadsheet to compare

also a good Articel about the MG279Q that might change my view to it.

Good bit of info there. The non vesa mount is a bit of a let down as my current Qnix is connected to a stand that can swivel tilt and can move up/down.
