I want to hot rod my node 304, and make it look like I don't give a fuck. I want to make people mad at LAN parties when they look at my computer, basically.

Design philosophy:

  • 5930k on an ASROCK X99E-ITX/AC motherboard, because ITX and 2011-3 makes some people extra mad and I don't know why.
  • Too much RAM for a rig that will (almost) exclusively run CSGO, and maybe stream on it, otherwise it doesn't make people mad enough.
  • Will be air cooled and will still have reasonable temps, mostly because cutting up my case and having the tallest single tower cooler in existence stick out of the case will again, make people extra mad.
  • Since I don't want it to make sense either, I should put an R9 fury in it and bolt the radiator somewhere outside on the case through the side air vent.

Now, you see where this is going and you probably don't like it, which is perfectly fine.
It's easy to make a PC do my taxes extra fast, but I don't know how to make a case look weathered, and the paint look basically bad. And, since I don't have 20 years to let my node 304 weather under the baking hot desert sun, does anyone have any advice? Has anyone ever made a case "look bad"?

The car equivalent of what I wanna do, for reference:

get a 20x instead of a 30x and a 980 ti instead of a fury, youll still make people jealous and not spend more than you need to

-snip-

Get yourself the following and fit it onto the case

- Massive rear wing at the back (extra downforce gives increased overclock stability)

- Carbon fibre wrap

- Chrome hub-cap zip-tied to the side

- Metallic blue paint on the interior metal

- Remove all drive cages and pci-e slot covers for weight reduction

- Mount your rad the way this guy mounts his intercooler

Good suggestion, I was going to try with a propane torch with a brazing nozzle, and a gas mask for sure.

980ti is about the same price, but it makes too much sense. A Fury X wit hthe radiator bolted to brackets outside the case will definitely make both NVIDIA and AMD fanboys mad, though.

If I can find a miniature chrome hub cap (10cm diameter or so) I'll do it for sure.

Edit because quote edited:

And yea, mounting a rad like that and pipes running on the side would look amazing.

So basically you want him to ricerfy his case lol good suggestion.

I'm really confused, how would that make anyone mad? They are just going to think you ate a few too many paint chips.

The RX7 wasn't done that way on purpose, he didn't go out and buy nice parts and intentionally distress them or go overkill on things that didn't matter. It was just cobbled together with whatever was around and cheap for everything that didn't matter, and the money and time spent where it did.

This may give you some ideas for distressing the case: http://www.modders-inc.com/forums/showthread.php/3872-Fallout-3-Case-Mod-by-Americanfreak

Or you could just throw it down the driveway a few times, I've seen people do that with AR15s to make them look battleworn, for some stupid reason...
