Wrong CPU temps displaying

k i ran aida64 cpu stress test for 10ish minutes and noticed that my temp 1 and temp 2 were going up temp3 never moved so its eliminated. 1 and 2 stayed neck and neck so i cant tell for sure which is which. im thinking its temp 1 because i took a can of air and sprayed the vrm with air and temp 2 went down until i stopped hitting it with air. i also noticed that after i ended the stress test and the temps were dropping whenever my cpu usage went up temp 1 also went up

well, there you have it then, temp 1 is your CPU temp as read from your MB sensor, use it to monitor the temps. It may not be the EXACT cpu temperature but it is way more accurate than the processor sensor itself, if you look up in my screenshot, my cpu reads 28°C, LMAO my ambient temperature is around 30°C and the 41°C reading is waaay more believable.

Don't wanna download but usually when I check temps, I check with multiple softwares to see what they're all showing. I like to use CPU-Z, CoreTemp and OpenHWMonitor.

Oh, that fixed it kek!

 

 

AMD CPU's do not show correct temps. it uses a formula to calculate the temps from near by sensors AFAIK

AMD CPU's do not show correct temps. it uses a formula to calculate the temps from near by sensors AFAIK

 

but even if it used different sensors shouldn't it still be above ambient.

The top pic looks fine, Speed fan is really weird at detecting temps :P

FX-series processors are comple garbage reading-temperature related, i for example use the sensor on my MB to read my FX 6350´s temperature, that is FAR more accurate, do some stress tests and use a motherboard sensor if possible

So should i use the socket temp since that is the only thing in contact with the cpu or some other one. maybe the bios temp would work since its showing a cpu temp thats quite a bit higher than these

I'll be so glad when i retire this pc in February and build another. its not a bad pc but amd has given me a crap ton of troubles besides this

speedfan is using c, thats why its low but converting to f it matches the top pic. all temps are the same nomater which software i use which leaves me to believe that juan's post is correct about the garbage cpu temp readings for amd

check this for example: im not using the K15 "sensor" that is on the processor itself, check for your motherboard one, mine is the IT8721F chip, your motherboard should use one too, do some stress tests and find which reading corresponds to your CPU

correct, let your PC get to idle temps and then run a stress test, then let it idle again, and check which temperature is the one that fluctuates accordingly to the stress

i was noticing that as well. since i figured out which is which would you think max temp for overclocking since its not exact. im only pushing 46 to 50c at full cpu load so i have quite a bit of overhead. im at 35c at idle on temp 1.

i was noticing that as well. since i figured out which is which would you think max temp for overclocking since its not exact. im only pushing 46 to 50c at full cpu load so i have quite a bit of overhead. im at 35c at idle on temp 1.

When i bought this processor like a year ago, i stress-tested it with prime95 (extreme-unrealistic workloads for a processor, i definitely do NOT recommend it for testing, could damage your cpu) and could reach temps of 80°C at 1.42v 4.9Ghz, i just backed up to 1.284v 4.5Ghz and now the processor sits at around 55-57°C when gaming.

 

This processors are really overclocking monsters, it is up to your comfort zone. What do you want as a barrier? voltage? temperature? i tried to mix them at my current settings and am pretty happy with the result, try something similar ;)
