Hey,

I have a Seagate Barracuda 500GB drive which I use mostly for video editing and some games (I.E. F:).  I also have a Western Digital 500gb from which all my programs boot from, including my OS. (I.E. Local Drive C:)

I would like to do a RAID 0 on them... Is this possible if one of the drives is my Local Drive (C:)?  Is it possible to RAID them even if they are different brands but the same size?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I believe so but I wouldn't do it incase one of the drives fails you're basically screwed.

Yes... What would be ideal is the RAID that stripes the data, and makes a copy of it... but for that I would need 4 hard drives :0 which I can't afford right now!

I would suggest that you buy a SSD instead for the os and programs. The difference is huge. Then you can do a raid 0 of the 2 hdd if you want, but i would use one for games, editing, mp3, pictures etc and use the other one for backup

When you do RAID 0 with two drives, they form a single virtual unit according to the OS.

Yes, dont think i said othervise

You said you can use one for games(and other things) and the other for backups. It doesn't work that way if they're in RAID 0.

Yes, you can raid them although it works better if they are exactly the same.

Why are you going to raid them? Faster scratchdisk?

I just wanted to raid them to make things simpler on my computer and make things faster... But I think I'll wait on RAIDing and get an SSD sometime in the near future.
