Custom Headphone Cables

I'll start off by saying, I'm no crazy audiophile, but I do care about sound. I've been looking into making my own cables for my TMA-1s as a DIY project (connecting to a Fiio E10). I've been seeing on head-fi people are buying solid (and expensive) pure silver wiring. Is this necessary? Would regular stranded pure (~99%) copper wiring (and to what gauge) provide any noticeable difference in SQ from stock cables?

Cables do not change sound unless their resistance is too high (ie they aren't thick enough for the distance they're traveling).

Expensive cables are pure snake oil.

only do it if your current cable is broken, or you want to change the termination, length, stiffness, or looks.

If you want to change up your cables, you'll notice more of a difference both short term and with long term durability by changing the connectors.

Ok, thanks for the help. I needed a new cable for portability (carrying around a 6+ foot cable when its only connected to something in your pocket is useless for me). Just wondering why people were dumping money. Maybe unicorn hair would work better?  :blink:
