Is overclocking a CPU worth it for gaming? I am learning to overclock my GPU and I am wondering if it is worth learning about overclocking my CPU...to me it seems like it would just put more wear on it without any real benefit to gaming?

What are your guys' thoughts on it?

Thanks!

I don't bother with it as I already get performance beyond my monitors refresh rate at max settings, if that changes then I'll reconsider

Cooler?

It's in his signature.

Really overclocking a CPU doesn't help too much in overall fps. On the other hand gpu overclocks are really good for gaming. I can get a 5-20fps boost with a gpu overclock

Might as well if you have the parts already... If you weren't intending on overclocking why did you get all the overclock-focused parts?

Haha because I tend to go way overkill on things. I would rather have it and not use it than not have it and wish I had it.

Seems like it might be worth doing then. Does a stable CPU overclock "wear out" the CPU to any great extent?

No reason not too... degradation if it happens will usually be near the end of its usefulness anyways so why worry about shortening its life span? Might as well squeeze what you can out of it up to a moderate voltage. See what you can get out of it up to 1.35v or 1.375v Vcore, do stability test and then save it as a BIOS profile.
