Can someone confirm?

Go to solution Solved by Curufinwe_wins,

No, you can't. They must be supported by the BIOS, IIRC only Workstation series mainboard (ASUS WS, ASRock WS) work with Xeons

Not true.

In almost every situation a xeon 1150 will work in h97 and z97 boards. What will not work on most if not all of the non WS boards is ECC memory, which must be explicitly supported to function. Additionally some of the xeon specific functions may not work properly on a h97 or z97 mobo but the cpu itself will function fine.

Can the LGA1150 xeons use any h97 or z97 boards?

there are a lot of 1150 xeons out there, you're mistaking  2011v3 xeons as 1150 xeons.

 as seen here http://www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket_1150_LGA1150_H3.html

so yes you can use 1150 Xeons on z97 and h97 motherboards

What? a standard board supports Xeon fine. Some people actually buy a Xeon E3 over an i5, because its basically a locked i7 with no integrated graphics.
