I'm considering carrying around another electronic device other than my phone and laptop for reading pdfs and textbooks. I know E-Reader's are probably best if I'm just reading, but then tablets have the option to be used other than just for reading. However, E-Readers such as the kindle survive much longer on a charge than a tablet does for reading. Also E-Readers are usually cheaper. What's your take on what I should get?

I use this Asus Tablet  for reading using the Kindle software. Its a lower end tablet with windows 8.1 on it but it works great, I even upgraded it to Win10 with no issues.

I get on average 8-10 hrs of use out it sometimes more but I use it for more than reading as well depending on what I need it for but it gives me that flexibility when I need something and I don't/can't bring a laptop.

This depends on what you are reading. If your textbooks have a lot of critical diagrams and figures (e.g. mechanical engineering books) then go with a tablet because E readers don't have color screens. If the books are mostly text then definitely an E reader! Kindles handle PDFs really well and you can even use an email they give you at setup to email yourself pretty much any format of document and it will download on your device.
