Wired Connection Help please

I just build my first gaming PC. I was planning on using wired connection. I connected the router to my Desktop and it is still giving me the x icon. What do I have to do?

Nope. So I have to install drivers from a disc that came with my router?

Not for the router but the ones from your motherboard, ideally downloading it on another PC and transferring the drivers over via thumb drive works best but you can use the ones on the disc and update it once you have a connection to the internet.

If you don't have another PC then take the disc and install the ethernet/LAN drivers from that disc, once you have that installed your good to use the internet and to go to the manufacture's site for that motherboard to install the latest drivers for the board. The ones on the disc are usually the first revision or so that came out during release so they are not the most up to date.

When I take out my windows 10 disc and put in the motherboard disc, the monitor screen goes black and says " no signal". What do I do about that?

That's odd, umm not sure why it would do that...

 

Try changing the connection on the GPU to the monitor or restarting to see if it fixes the problem.

That isn't related issue. You must have loose monitor cable. Also, don't want to be rude, but you must be really new to whole PC thing?

 

Drivers are like any other software and game when it comes to installing. Double click on .exe or .msi (Microsoft Shell Installer) and lots of Nexts. There are two main differences between drivers and regular software. First is that drivers will install on OS drive and you don't get to decide folder. Thats good thing since they are pretty important. Another is that while you can live without most software, you need drivers to use motherboard and graphic card features.

 

So besides installing LAN drivers, you should install all other drivers on that disc. And install also driver for you GPU.

Download the Ethernet/LAN drivers and put them in a USB flash drive then install it on the PC without Ethernet connection. That's what i did for the recent rig i built that couldn't connect to ethernet out of the box.

 

If you have a CD/DVD ROM drive then use the CD included, should be sufficient.
