Essay Help?

This isn't exactly the place to ask for help, but I sure a couple of you can.

I need help writing a thesis statement for my essay. I haven't been able to come up with anything good.

 

The essay is about the story "The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe

 

This is what I was given:

In the story, the tell tale heart, the narrator eventually confesses to the murder, even though the officers did not suspect him of the crime. What is your opinion of the idea that you cannot escape your guilt?

Use details to back up your ideas such as specific quotes and events in the story and relationships between characters and your own life experiences and events

well its nice that she included "in your opinion" so that you can adress the essay as an opinion piece. just restate the prompt in a fresh and interesting way i guess and include a look into the evidence you are using. even easier if you are doing a three pronged thesis. -English Honors

A thesis statement is a summary of all the points you're gonna address in your essay, we can't help you with that

The thesis should be very strong, and should use very VERY good descriptive words and details, for example

 

P1; Why bananas taste good

P2: Why bananas are healthy

P3: Bananas are cheap and easy to get 

 

The thesis would be:

 

 Bananas are an extremely common fruit, but I find them to be the best fruit because they taste good, are considrably healthy, and very cheap and easy to buy (but with a lot more descriptive words, I wrote it in a rush)

A thesis is just the last sentence of your introduction paragraph. Are you writing a Critique? A thesis usually contains 3 words that sums up the story, for example,

The story "Tell Tale Heart" was not only ( examples ) breathtaking, the story was also crazy and bone chilling.

Oh and is this the story about the Crazy eye?

A thesis is just the last sentence of your introduction paragraph. Are you writing a Critique? A thesis usually contains 3 words that sums up the story, for example,

The story "Tell Tale Heart" was not only ( examples ) breathtaking, the story was also crazy and bone chilling.

What you said is an OP statement (opening), not a thesis. Had a test on this crap last week, it's still fresh in my mind.  But the opening isn't the last sentence... what've u been writing?

The one that I just wrote and got a 50/50, the ONLY 50/50 in the whole class. College Composition 161 is also the class I am in.

That was the thesis statement to the paper I wrote just over a week ago. Different points of view from different teachers I guess.

Just wrote the Critique, and we are on the Synthesis now.

Above all, the thesis is an argument for your essay. It is not a fact but rather a general opinion and needs to be supported by evidence. I was taught to have a two-part thesis with 1. your general argument and 2. a statement like "therefore" to further explain it. It shouldn't be an exact copy of the prompt stating "In my opinion...".
