Memory speed question

Go to solution Solved by squirrl,

you should be reading 933mhz there

I have 1866 MHz rated corsair vengeance pro memory running on a new z87 Msi gd65 gaming mobo. A kit of 2x 8gb paired sticks.

I'm not quite sure of all the settings and how it's supposed to behave. I have it set at base mhz set to auto and clock to ddr3-1866 MHz with XMP on.

CPU-z reports 800 MHz at idle and 3900 MHz at load.

Is this right?

GamingPC: Intel 4770k CPU, 2xMSI 780 GTX Twin Frozr, 16 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro, Swiftech H220 CPU Cooler.

I think that's the CPU frequency, not the RAM...

The XMP should be fine, just check that the voltage is 1.5V and the timings are 9-10-9-27.

I think you're reading your CPU speed there. If it's set to 1866 in the BIOS then it should run at that speed as for the timings i would check the manufacturers website for them and check them in your bios

Can you confirm that you are looking under the "Memory" tab? Because 800MHz is the proper clock for 1600MHz RAM, but 3900MHz RAM doesn't exist. I believe you're looking under the CPU tab.

I was expecting to read 1866mhz somewhere in CPU-z is all.. But it doesn't

Because of the way RAM, you double it to get the actually frequency. (so you double the NB/DRAM frequency that it reports).
