Whelp! To upgrade or not to upgrade?

LastZombie

I was thinking if i should upgrade my system. I have this system for about 2 years now and it is kinda slowing down. I stream and record a lot so cpu is very important for me. Should i upgrade or wait another generation? I have been thinking about this for about a month and still can't decide.
Cpu upgrade cost:
Since upgrading to 6700k will require new motherboard and ram it will be costly for me. İ7 6700K+Msi Z170A Gaming M5+ any 2666mhz 16gb ddr4 kit (690$ish - what i can get for my old parts is around 350$ my old 8gb kit is included in this price)

Gpu upgrade cost:
I can trade my gpu with gtx 970 spending 130 $ or go full bananas and trade to 980ti for 522$. I don't think gtx 970 will be worth the upgrade since i won't get 60fps ultra@1080p on games like witcher 3. But i don't play high demanding games a lot so spending that much money on 980ti is not really necessary.

I'd just ride that system out to see what the consumer version of Pascal is like.

It's still a pretty solid system. If you need more power, why not just double up on the 280x's? They're quite cheap now.

Not sure why you got such a powerful PSU, might as well make use of it right? ;)

Nah, perhaps one more gpu and for the rest, just keep the money and when Zen comes out you may do a full change A to Z. IMO

Tried cf never gonna do it again. I will spend more money on one better card than dealing with two card problems. As i said i stream a lot and streaming sometimes requires me to go borderless and that usually disables the second card. İ had 2 6950's both were modded to work as 6970 :D I also don't want to use amd gpus anymore. They are not very useful at rendering. I bought that psu when i was cfing 6950 and bough that soo cheap as used. Thinking i would keep using 2 cards and add watercooling. Bough my custom loop but got rid of the second card :D Psu was 150$ or something. $ to Turkish Lira ratio changes a lot here so it is hard to compare prices that were 2-3 years old.

Really? AMD cards tend to do better in Vegas, but I guess it'd depend on what you were using.

Have you looked at used 780's?

I wouldn't invest in much until Pascal is released. I don't imagine it's toooo far away.

switched to premiere pro due to other compatibility things. Not loving it but getting use to it. I keep waiting and waiting :D

Not gonna get second card for sure.  I bought my card for 276$ so for me gtx 970 upgrade doesn't look too bad.

im glad another person is using a bridge proccessor

How can't i my oc gives same performance as 4770k stock ;)

You would need a PSU to add to that. Man i got the 2600k its a f**kin beast of a CPU dude, you will only find about 10-15% increase in gaming, its not really worth the money yet. DDR4 is alot of money as well. I was thinking about it just like you were. its not worth it in my eyes unless you have the money and it wont affect you then go ahead by all means lol

IMO getting something like a GTX 980 Ti would be a better route... the 2600K still kicks ass.

well he already has the PSU, so if it dies and the company doesn't have an elegant replacement system he can get a new one then :)

Any half decent PSU should die without taking anything else with it... even if Enermax is kind of a sketchy company (not even sure if they are, idk anything about them) I'm pretty sure a PSU capable of providing 1250W would be manufactured well enough to not explode, especially since the system's load is nowhere near that high

Its a actually a very sketchy one. They only do the super low end (as to my knowledge). The question is can it even reach that. It very well could be the peak wattage and not be able to sustain that at all.

Sounds like it's a pretty solid unit... http://www.anandtech.com/show/2662/4

What's wrong with it?
