Hi so I was deleting a bunch of files on windows 10 (not system files and not on the boot drive) about 20 at a time and all of a sudden the screen goes black and the monitors go into sleep mode. So I held down the power button. Which did nothing. So I flipped the switch on the power supply and turned it back on. Then windows boots normally and then once I log on, some of the programs that I set to start up with windows don't start up like MSI afterburner, but then 10 minutes later it does, and the internet isn't working, and avast cant start the firewall. So I ran tweaking.com windows repair which didn't do anything except delete a bunch of tiles on the start menu. I'm using my laptop to post this.

Someone please help. Thanks!

Well you obviously killed it off while it was working and some files got corrupted. Rescue everything you can and do a full windows repair with an ISO or just reinstall it to be completely safe.

This worked for me when i had a corrupt windows install, but you should probably do a fresh install anyway.

In addition to SFC /SCANNOW you can also run

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Hopefully between the two of those commands, you should be back up and going.

i used rufus ( a exe file that extracts iso files to usb's or cd's) and then went to the boot menu and it didnt reconize the files. How can i repair from the iso?

also the windows rapair program i downloaded ran sfc /scannow and it tried to repair but didn't do anything. I have reinstalled windows 10 3 times because i broke it which is why i don't want to reinstall it.

ok DISM just finished and said error 0X800f0906

the source files could not be downloaded.

use the "source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\windows\logs\dism\dism.log

Do i need a internet connection? i can try using my laptop as a access point by sharing the connection, because the wireless isn't working.

ok i can't connect to the internet for some reason, using my laptop as a bridge doesnt work, the diagnostic says problem with the wireless adapter or access point, but my wireless card is connected to the internet. it also says wifi doesnt have a valid IP. and my computer is not showing up on my router. so i cant run DISM unless the internet works.

Hey, sorry, just got off of work. DISM shouldn't need an internet connection. The next step would be to boot to your installation media (the flash drive or cd you used to install) and run SFC again in the "Repair My Computer" section.

To answer your question about "Resetting", I want to clear something up first. Win8 and up has two major repair options: Refresh and Reset. Refresh will save your personal documents but delete everything else and reload Windows. Reset will delete everything (including your documents) and reload Windows. Either way, you'll be reinstalling your programs afterward.
