I've been hired to build a computer by a peer in my class (yes of course I'm still charging him) I figured, I'll use the money I make and upgrade my own build. Unlike me however he pretty much doesn't have a budget, he can simply splurge in whatever he feels like, so I felt like 5000 was the place to be.

Here's the build

What do you think

this would seem like a good fit.

this is basicly as "balls to the walls" you can go without going stupidly expensive.

Yep, I hate overkilling too much. Even that CPU hurts me a little, the 5820k is more than enough for any kind of an everyday task you throw at it

well.. i heard somewhere some motherboards do odd things when doing SLI with the 5820k...

theoretically, depending on how the board is wired, with the 5930k you could do sli with 16x 16x, and still have another 8x in the third 16x physical slot.

(nvme anyone? xD)

In order to guaranty quad channel memory operation one should buy a 4x8GB memory kit. Buying two dual channel kits has a small chance of the kits not working in quad channel. In addition, since XMP profiles are based on kit capacity, there is a small chance that the combined kits will not be able to operate at the advertised speed and timings.

It is a nice build. But I would suggest considering a 512GB Samsung SM951 M.2 ssd as the boot drive. With performance up to 4 times that of SATA III, I think it worth the cost in a build at this level.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Even if it doesn't work in quad channel, it would make no difference ^^

Not so. There is a measurable difference in performance.

Not really, I benchmarked my dad's PC with an X99 rig 5820k etc. first with a dual channel then quad channel, the performance in 3dmark slightly lowered for some reason.
