One that's somewhat cheap/ possibly free. I could probably buy a student version of something, but what's the best program. Something preferably with gpu rendering, since it's faster.

Edit: I do have photoshop cs6... :D I saw something about rendering in that, but I wasn't sure if that's possible ?

You can but will take awhile. If you are a student you can pick up individual Adobe products for a low cost including Premiere Pro.

I couldn't really afford to pay monthly for Adobe...

Lightworks.

Blender3D.

I'll try blender out and see, since I do have that installed. If not I'll defiantly try light works. Thx

You're running a GTX 980 according to your signature. No current video editing software supports CUDA / OpenGL rendering. Not the Adobe Suite, not Sony Vegas, and not any of your lower-end, cheap software. It's unfortunate, but it's the truth. Some programs can take advantage of GPU acceleration for effects, but not the final rendering. :/

Edit: The Adobe Creative Cloud is $21.45 a month for students, and will grant you access to all of their programs. Normally, it's $40 a month. You can no longer buy the products standalone, as you have to rent them.

Yeah it is a shame. AFAIK some benefits from CUDA on the Adobe platforms is acceleration on the Mercury Playback Engine and 3D ray-tracing.

Vegas has some old-school OpenCL/CUDA acceleration though. Their outdated H.264 rendering profiles liked Nvidia's Fermi quite a bit.

Adobe uses GPU for 3D Ray Tracing, however even Adobe is saying this is an obsolete tool and is pushing people towards using the Lite version of Cinema 4D they include.

But if you want some recommendations of good NLEs

  • Davinci Resolve 12 (Free)
  • HitFilms (Fee version)
  • Lightworks (Free version)

Photoshop isn't able to edit or render video files, the best it can do is animated gifs I think.

It's possible to render videos with Photoshop

Its possible just not recommended, its an image editor for the great majority of it, better get a dedicated video editor.
