Should I OC my CPU?

Go to solution Solved by CoolZakCZ,

I'd say not to risk OC'ing unless you've got an aftermarket cooler. Honestly, if I wanted to overclock, I definitely would not do it with the stock cooler.

My current CPU is an i7 3770k @3.5ghz. I'm running it without a custom cooler, 16GB DDR3 Crucial RAM @800mhz, and an EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0 980 Ti. I play games mainly on a 1080p monitor while I have a 720p monitor for browsing while gaming.

If I were to play games such as the Witcher 3, heavily modded skyrim (graphics), and Total War Attila/Rome 2 would I really need to OC my 3770k? I've had it for over 2 years now so I'm not eager to accidentally brick it.

Nope - 3770K stock should be left stock on the stock cooler. Also - it's hardly going to go past 60% usage in Witcher 3.

So even CPU intensive games won't cause my 3770k to run into any problems?

I've got a locked 4590 - I've yet to see it past 75% usage. You're fine

depends on whos asking, try getting past 1.45v on haswell on a non Devils Canyon SKU.

A person who hasn't OCed should not be doing such stuff

My partner SiliconLottery can delid for you and if they break it they buy it.
