Where to install a layer 3 switch?

Hello everyone,

I was just given a layer 3 switch from work (a Dell PowerConnect 2824) so I could prepare for some certs I'm planning to get in the near future, i.e. network+, security+, CCNA, etc. I already have my A+. I was wondering where to install it? Should I place the switch between the modem and router (modem -> switch -> router) or should I use one of the ports on the router to connect the switch to?

Thanks!

My modem only has one Ethernet output, sadly.

Get working on that CCNA buddy :)

I might do the Network+ first, but the CCNA is definitely going to get done not shortly after!

are you going to use the switch more often/ more important stuff?

then do that one first, then router

I'm going to be working mainly inside the switch. My SO mainly uses the wireless but they shouldn't have much downtime while I get the switch configured I hope.
