Which cheap microphone for casual gaming?

Ronson

Hey guys

I'm a very casual PC gamer (gta 5 now and then, dayz etc). I am using speakers for sound - NOT headset (and I'm not interested in using a headset). However, since the only mic I have are built into a headset, I have to wear the headset around my neck to be able to use that mic.

I'm looking for a better solution. What do you guys use (if not using a headset)? I'd like a solution I either have to wear, or a desk-solution where it could stand behind my keyboard and still pick up my voice (and not the sound coming from the speakers).

Budget is max $75ish.

Yeti is way way over budget, snowball is a little over budget. How come you both recommend the snowball? Is it that good?

The Snowball and yeti will pick up the sound coming from your speakers when you are gaming, it will also pick up your keyboard typing sound which can make the person on the other end really annoyed.

That is the trade off of using desktop mic and speakers instead of headset or headphone.  Just giving you a headsup

That aside, the Snowball and Yeti is like the go to desktop USB mic nowadays. It is really good for what they are. However, you'll be surprised how well those Genius $5 desktop mic work so give those a try. Its like cheaper than a 6inch sub :P

Will they? I really thought there were some kind of tech in them that prevented background noise etc. Especially sound from the speakers since the PC already knows which sounds it's making, so I thought it would be able to filter those.

I picked up this for $7, sounds pretty bad if you are recording with it, but you won't really notice it if your using skype or GTA V chat. http://www.amazon.com/Connectland-CL-ME-606-Goose-Desktop-Microphone/dp/B0028Y4DCC/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1443192988&sr=8-10&keywords=mic

If you want a nicer one then go for a Snowball around $40.
