KINGPIN RMA. My story.

JonIkadaj

So a couple weeks ago when they announced the 980 Ti Kingpin my roommate and I went full retard and both bought one with 76% ASIC. We live in Canada, so to get that kind of card here is a bit more expensive than if you get it in the US. The card was 999$ US so that's about 1400$ CAN. We had to pay for customs so the price ramped up to about 1600$ CAN. We paid for express shipping. Some of you may say we should have gotten another 980 Ti and just OC it to the max but I really wanted to play with LN2 on this particular card. Anyways, they insisted on sending the card directly to our home since the package is of great value but we tried to convince them to send it to y work because I am there most of the time. They never wanted so my roommate changed the shipping address to his parents house. After doing so he got a call from EVGA saying they had to ship the card at our house and nowhere else. Up to there, everything was fine. Once they shipped the card we started monitoring the tracking number. The day after the card was at a postal office 10 mins away from our place being prepared for delivery. At the end of the day the card was still not home so we decided to check the tracking again and guess what, they had sent it in another province (state) claiming they could not find our address. We had to call UPS to clear that out and after 1 hour on the phone, we did. The next day, still no card. UPS called us to tell us we should get the cards on the next day. This was 3 days after buying the cards. On the fourth day, UPS calls us again to tell us there was a problem with our address and that we had to call our local UPS Store to know where the cards were because they lost track of them. Basically they were telling us that they lost 3000$ worth of cards within their own company. I mean... What? Seriously? This had to be a joke. They really did. While on the phone with the company, someone knocks on the door. Guess what? The cards were home! After exactly 3 minutes of installing the card and driver I was playing games with this beast card! On the fifth day I decide to play a little with the LN2 and start messing with the voltage. After exactly ONE BF4 game with my cousin, the LED starts flickering like it's a 70's disco dance. I immediately revert everything, re-install drivers and all.. No luck, the issue persists. I try another game of BF4 but this time my pc shut down while playing so I emailed EVGA right away to troubleshoot this issue. They have me replace my PSU which does nothing at all. They have me switch my GPU in my friend's case. Still no change in behavior. After a full week of troubleshooting they tell me to RMA the card. I fill out the form but turns out since I registered my card on my account  and not on my friend's account since he is the original buyer ( we wanted to save for shipping ) I do not get the full 3 year warranty with the guaranteed ASIC percentage. I only get 1 year with no ASIC guarantee. Um, ok no thanks. After hours of arguing with one guy he tells me I can register my card on my friend's account and do the RMA from there to get the full warranty. Once I register the card, I try to RMA but it doesn't work since I need a ticket number from their support. I ask a guy to give me one since we troubleshooted the card for a week and he tells me since the card was re-registered on my friend's account we have to re-do the troubleshooting. REALLY? I had a broken card so what choice did I have. My friend troubleshoots with them for 3 days and they finally give us a ticket number. YES! You're probably thinking now that there is surely something wrong and the ticket number won't work, you guessed right. When requesting the RMA it says I can only get the guest and not the buyer warranty. Lol. We email them again to explain that this is getting ridiculous. The guy was very quick and fixed the issue so we do the RMA. On the next day I get an email saying I have to pay for the shipping. How about no? So I send them another email requesting free shipping. A few hours later I get an email from the support manager saying he is sorry about all this and that he will send me a free shipping return label and that I could have just done the RMA through my account because there is NO difference between guest and buyer RMA. Yeah, basically I could have shipped the card 1 week ago and would probably have my new one right now.

This was my story. I am shipping my card tomorrow. Sorry for the long post but I needed some of you to cry with me.

The moral of this story is that Kingpins don't come cheap, ever.

I have no consistency in my upgrades.

Sorry but a kingpin isnt worth the money... AT ALL. You want to get a REAL ln2 card and not just a card with a fancy name and cooler, go to the galax 980ti HOF ln2.... its cheaper, and probably a hell of alot better then a kingpin...

pls stahp

The support behind the kingpin is absolutely massive for Ln2 tips and tricks and BIOS's as well as software and hardware overvoltage tools. Galaxy doesn't have jack shit on that.

Are you fucking dense? It doesn't have vdroop, no extermal voltage control, memory heater, no trimpot locations, no OCP or OVP swiches also is somewhat TDP locked out of the box.

You can also control voltage externally through a Raspberry Pi on a KPE.

True kingpin has more support but it doesnt make up for the HOF ln2 being a better card, granted they are only making 100 which im sure are already sold out

It's not a better card, it's lacking so many features that the Kingpin has.

You were trying to play BF4 while on LN2.. Never mentioning Insulation.. or a Pot for LN2.. Your RMA is probably going to get worse if you thought the first part was bad...

What LN2 pot were you using?  What did you use for insulation?

True kingpin has more support but it doesnt make up for the HOF ln2 being a better card, granted they are only making 100 which im sure are already sold out

Post results proving your claim.. Any HOF vs the K|ngp|n cards..  780ti HOF owners boasted that it was better than the 780ti K|ngp|n... but results didn't lie.

No hard feelings but you shouldn't buy the card if you can't afford it ;)

And this is why internet shouldn't be so easy to use. If you don't have anything useful to say, please leave this post by pressing back on your browser (or if you're one of the cool dudes with the button on your mouse then press this one). Thank you.

Yes, my friend who is alot more experienced than me left it on stock bios and applied overvoltage.

let me get the facts right

you got your GPU

install the GPU and drivers

and fired up games to test

loaded the LN2 Bios and stuffs happens

have you touch the GPU physically? like take apart it?

did you apply too much OC?

can you reset everything?

like run back on the stock BIOS?

Already talked to him on my Teamspeak and figured out what is wrong, he's ordering the things to fix it.  Firmware on the card is messed up and Kingpin + TiN already have a fix for it on their 980 TI KP overclocking thread.

He didn't break anything, there's a glitch in the firmware on some of the cards, and all you have to do is flash a new firmware and it fixes it.

Na he doesn't have to splice, he just needs the USB 2.0 bracket thing.

Only have to splice if you don't have the bracket adapter.

You just plug in the usb 2.0 header, then plug it into ur usb ports on board, then flash the firmware and done

hmm

he didnt have to RMA the card if the fix was simple to do

unless it really had a bad BIOS or the card is indeed faulty
