Hello,

a few days ago I bought a new graphics card because my old one was crashing my computer quite frequently (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/451589-crash-to-vertical-lines/).

Since I installed the new card my system kept on crashing. The crashes are a lot more rare though and seem to only happen while gaming as far as I can tell. It now crashes to a black screen instead of vertical lines and the problem where the computer won't reboot after a crash is gone. Progress :)

PC Specs:

CPU: Intel I7-3770

CPU Cooler: NOCTUA NH-U9B

MB: Asus P8B75-V

RAM: 2 x 8Gb DDR3 @ 1600MHz

PSU: be quiet Straight Power CM BQT E9-CM (580W)

HDD: 2 x WD Caviar Black 2000GB SATA III

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 1TB

GPU: Asus Strix R9 390

Case Fans: 4 x 90mm

Any ideas what the problem might be this time around?

Yes I reinstalled the drivers after the first crash if I remember correctly and I deinstalled the old drivers before putting the new card in.

does the PSU have the appropriate connectors out of the box or did you use any kind of adapter cables

The PSU had the appropriate connectors. No adapters used.

my money's on faulty psu

I was kind of thinking the same. The PSU is two years old and seems to have not enough juice for the R9 390 from what I read online?

Would it help if I connect only my graphics card to the Seasonic 430W PSU I have laying around while the bequiet PSU powers the rest?

did you use DDU for the drivers?

SeaSonic 430W should be able to run it with everything stock though a 500W is the minimum for a 390/970

What is DDU? :)

Do you mean I need a 500W PSU to power the GPU alone?

I want to use the Seasonic 430W PSU to power the GPU only and the bequiet 580W PSU to power the rest of the system. If the system stops crashing in this configuration then the 580W PSU is faulty. I don't know if that makes any sense.

I mean a 500W PSU is a good bet for the whole system so that you have headroom. 430W is enough but kinda maxing it.

DDU is Display Driver uninstaller. Use that - if you uninstall the driver via Control Panel then that might be your issue.

Okay I used DDU and reinstalled the driver. I will report back if it crashes again.

Why not?

Why not?

It's moreso space issues rather than safety issues.

If you wanna try and see if it works, go ahead.

I do not want this as a long term solution. I just want to see if the system still crashes with two PSUs :)

For now I am going to try that DDU thingy.
