Okay, So earlier on today, my friends GPU crapped out on him. It was an old ASUS GPU without air cooling, just a heat-sink for case cooling. He has a limit to £50, and he needs a card that is capable of just playing movies at 1080p, at the same time he wants it at the lowest price, and with a really good heat-sink, so his case can cool it.

If there is any way of getting a card that can be cooled by a case fan attached, please let me know.

Get a passive card and put an 80mm fan on it. they stay very well cooled

no point of buying a passive card if youre going to put a fan on it anyway...

there is a reason. If the card has a passive cooler, adding a slight airflow to it makes it run really cool and quiet.

but with worse performance

something like a 750ti already runs extremely cool and quiet while still having great performance even in games

With my experience, using a Noctua fan on a passive heatsink is better than using the fans that are already on the GPU

passive GPUs are extremely low power and have reduced performance so that they can run passively

obviously it will be cooler if you put a fan on something that has enough cooling with a heatsink

and its not quieter because cards like the 900 series have a 0dba mode wher the fan doesnt spin and it just remain passive

giving far better performance with 0 noise than a passive GPU does

I'm looking for something £50 or less, not something that costs double the budget, plus as said before, it's just for basic movie and show watching use, nothing like gaming or anything, plus we need it quiet, blowing a Noctua across a passive card would be better then using the fans they come with. Lower end cards don't have the best fans on them

why not just get something like a used 750/ti and just remove the stock fan

I found a card, it seems that this one is the best for it's price, seems to act well and keep low temps and is passive:

Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 720 Silent Graphics Card (2GB, GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0)

What is he going to do with a 720? Tetris? ._. - A used GTX 570/Radeon 6850 would have been far better

I did say the budget was £50, not £150

I know and that's why I told you to get a used GPU - you could have easily gotten a much better 2nd hand card
