Hangouts is buggy but better than skype from what I remember. Skype may be trying to use GPU acceleration in a manner which is screwing up videos/games that try to use GPU as well. I've had AMD drivers crap out with things like maple, visual studio, and stuff and those are mostly 2d applications (super lag, messed up GUI rendering, fixed by disabling HW accel for those applications). Skype probably needs HW acceleration for optimal performance but it likely is just bugs in either the GPU driver or the program.

Your problem is Skype. It's very possibly the worst messanging software that I'm regularly forced to use. Use quite literally anything else...

As a sidenote, I'm still waiting for Telegram to support VOIP and video chats, because that'll be the day on which I'll never ever have to use anything else again.

WELL... Here some some things to help:

Try low priority:

Go to taskmanager>Details>Rightclick Skype>Priority>Low Priority... Unless you're using really expencive headphones, there won't be an audio change... IT just lessens the prioirty

What's your PC specs? I'm a youtuber and avidly use skype. I find 4GB will let me do basic work with skype, but still be laggy. You might jsut need a RAM or videocard(?) upgrade.

Try Teamspeak:

Teamspeak runs on less memory and is way faster and easier to use.

Reinstall skype:

Just reinstall it, or if you're on Windows 8/8.1/10, download "Skype for Desktop" instead of the default.

Hope this helped!
