Heres my build:

i7 4790k
gtx 980
16 gb of ram

And i have a cougar sl 600w. it should be enough watts but is the brand safe, or am i risking breaking anything in my computer. Do i have to replace it? I want to know if i should be fine for around 3-4 months till i can get a better one. Thanks.

The recommended for a 980 is 500W. I wouldn't bother replacing the PSU.

But that PSU is also not the best.

You're not screwed, but you should put a better PSU in there when you can.

The PSU is arguably the most important component in your PC. Don't cheap out on it (that doesn't mean more watts = more better).

I learned that when I tried to use a Raidmax 1000W

You have enough wattage and all but I see no reason to keep that PSU around any longer than you have to. Fireworks in your PC may sound cool but the fire brigade of your neighborhood would probably think otherwise.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Yeah i know, i got it free from my friend so i assumed it would be good enough at the time.

Will it really catch fire though?

Cougar is a somewhat known brand to me but I know they vary from solid good powersupplies to cheap tacky ones.

If its a decent cougar power supply at 600w it will be fine.

My Rig : Zotac 780 3GB, i5 4670k, H105, M1211 650W, 8GB 2133mhz vengence pro, Mini R2, 144Hz AOC Gsync Monitor
